We Are His Body

They gather at the shelter
And bless the soup and bread
A streetwise congregation
Of dirty sunburned heads
It’s a crude communion
Among the lost and found
Someone reads a Bible
And passes it around

CHANNEL:
One by one their voices are lifted
Laying down their burdens to sing

CHORUS:
We are his body
We are one
We used to be strangers
But now we belong
And our life together has just begun
We are his body
We are one

A man they call preacher
Falls to his knees
Says "I need a miracle
Will you pray for me?”
He’s suddenly surrounded
By those he came to save
Hands reach out to hold him
And every heart is changed

CHANNEL:
One by one their voices are lifted
Laying down their burdens to sing (CHORUS)

BRIDGE:
And no matter where we are
Even in the lonely places
We are all connected to each other
By the grace of Jesus (CHORUS)
